President Salva Kiir has invited opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar to visit Juba.

The two principals and other stakeholders signed a new peace deal on Wednesday last week.

The revitalized agreement is an amendment of the August 2015 deal that allowed Dr. Riek Machar to come back to the country after fleeing the 2013 violence.

In 2016, violence broke out again in Juba, forcing the SPLM-IO leader to flee, again.

“He invited them to come and spend two to three days here in juba under his [Kiir] protection so that they see for themselves after which they will go back,” he said.

“However, this is under consideration.”

The revitalized agreement on the conflict in South Sudan reinstates Dr. Riek Machar as the first vice president.

According to the new deal, Dr Machar will officially move to Juba in May next year to assume his position.
