UNMISS has reinforced its human rights to investigate the brutal sexual attacks on women in Bentiu


The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has reinforced its Human Rights team in Bentiu to help with investigations following reports of brutal sexual attacks on women and girls in the Unity region.

Medical Charity Group Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), reported last week that approximately 125 women and girls had sought medical treatment after having been raped or sexually assaulted in a ten-day period as they walked along roads near Nhialdu and Guit on their way to Bentiu.

The UNMISS investigation team is being headed by UNMISS Human Rights Director, Eugene Nindorera.

Mr. Nindorera said the sexual attacks on women and girl is not acceptable called for action against the perpetrators.
