As food security decline dramatically in Kenya, residents of Turkana county are faced with starvation. This is following the harsh weather condition that has persisted for months. Several people have reportedly died of hunger -related complications. Confirming the incidences, the county governor Josphat Nanok has described the famine situation as dire and called for urgent distribution of relief food to avert more deaths.

Noting no one is immune to hunger and brothers don’t let each other wander in the dark alone, the southern Sudanese tycoon Lawrence Lual Malong junior has extended a hand of humanity to respond to the drought crisis. His act of humanity and a sense of empathy have received welcoming gestures on social platforms.

The tycoon has ordered a halt to mining activities in his firm and his trucks be filled with food and go to Kenya with immediate effect. Posting on social media, Lual Malong Jr. appealed to relief agencies to intervene urgently to save thousands of the region’s residents from starvation. He further urged the Kenya government to create more extensive food safety network.

Lual Malong junior has advised the county government of Turkana to collaborate with local administration to ensure the distribution of food items is done effectively and food reaches all the affected victims. Lual Malong Junior has further stated that getting sustainable solutions for basic needs for Turkana community requires concerted efforts from Kenya government, private sector as well as humanitarian aid organizations.
