President Salva Kiir has started a two-day official visit to Kenya at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Kiir, accompanied by a government delegation, was welcomed by a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honour at State House Nairobi.

Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mawien Makol Ariik says the President and his accompanying delegation will discuss a number of bilateral issues with Kenyan authorities, including border issues, visa clearance and other matters of concern.

Mawien says President Kiir’s offer to mediate in the Sudan crisis between the Transitional Military Council and the civilian opposition will also feature in the discussions.

In a related development, Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that Kenya will set aside 10 acres at the Naivasha Inland Container Depot for South Sudan.

After receiving President Kiir in Nairobi, the Kenyan leader said this was in response to a request by the Juba government for the land to ease the movement of goods to South Sudan.
