President Kiir Orders Flags to fly at half-mast to honour Mugabe.

All national flags in South Sudan will fly at half-mast in honour of former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.

This is per as the order issued by President Salva Kiir this afternoon.

”The President has directed that the flags in South Sudan should fly at half-mast for the next three days in honor of this great African leader,” Michael Makuei, South Sudan Information Minister told reporters in Juba on Friday.

The president this morning conveyed his condolences to the government and the people of Zimbabwe. “I offer our sincere sympathies and condolences to his family, friends and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe who have lost a great leader, revolutionary and dedicated statesman, “Kiir’s letter reads in part.

The South Sudanese leader described Mugabe as a liberator and inspirational figure.

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the governing party of South Sudan, also passed its condolences to the people of Zimbabwe following Mugabe’s death.

“The SPLM has lost a great partner. Mugabe supported the struggle of the people of South Sudan. We want to express our condolences to his family, ZANU-PF and the people of Zimbabwe,” said Peter Lam Both, spokesman of the SPLM party.

Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe died in Singapore on Friday morning, aged 95. Mugabe was forced to step down by the military in November 2017 following protests. He had ruled the country for close to four decades.
