President Kiir orders all MPs to test for coronavirus



South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered all members of parliament to take a mandatory test for coronavirus, a lawmaker told South Sudan News Now (SSNN) from the capital Juba.

“The President has ordered that all of us [to] be tested and that will go on regularly every one week,” the lawmaker who refused to be named said.

“The president said that must happen and is mandatory.”

President Salva Kiir’s directives come days as senior government officials including his first deputy, Dr. Riek Machar Teny tested positive for coronavirus.

Doctors have also criticized the government handling of the virus. The government has said that coronavirus patients tested by the government and found positive were not following the coronavirus guidelines set forth by the government.

As of Sunday, South Sudan have 347 confirmed coronavirus cases, six (6) deaths and four recoveries.
