Kiir may give Jonglei state to OPP if SSOA continue to reject deal



South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit will reconsider his decision to give Jonglei state to the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and will instead give it to Other Political Parties (OPP) led by Peter Mayen should SSOA leader continue to reject the state, a senior government official said.

This comes after the opposition consortium said in a statement this morning that it was not ready for the consensus reached by Kiir and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny over the allocation of states in which it was given Jonglei state.

The Alliance had expected to be given the oil-rich Upper Nile state which is now a property of the SPLM-IO, according to the Kiir-Machar consensus.

Speaking to South Sudan News Now this afternoon, a senior South Sudan government official said the president may change his mind and give the state to other parties who have not been given a state hinting at OPP.
