Presidency Set the Graduation of Unified Forces to take place in 30th August/2022.

PRESS STATEMENT

His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, convened a meeting of the Presidency on Wednesday, 10th August 2022, to listen to a report from the National Transitional Committee (NTC), the Joint Defence Board (JDB), the Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC), and Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) on the summary of the Necessary Unified Forces at the Training Centers, and preparations by these mechanisms towards their graduation.

In attendance were, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny, First Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. James Wani Igga, Vice President for Economic Cluster, H.E. Hussein Abdelbaggi Akol, Vice President for Services Delivery Cluster, H.E. Taban Deng Gai, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng De- Mabior, Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster.

During the meeting, the Presidency was informed that the Necessary Unified Forces in all training centers are now ready for the graduation and deployment since they have accomplished all the processes of screening, training, unification and verification by the Security Mechanisms.

The meeting was conducted in a collegial manner consistent with the spirit of the R-ARCSS, and after thorough deliberation on the arrangements, the Presidency set the tentative date for the graduation of the Necessary Unified Forces for Tuesday, 30th August 2022.

In his remarks, H.E. the President directed the NTC to avail the remaining uniforms for the organized forces within one week. The Presidency underscored the urgency to graduate the first phase of the National Unified Forces as they have overstayed in the training centers.

H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit also directed the JDB and the JTSC to conduct a technical meeting on the preparations, and report back to the Presidency after 7 days to evaluate on the readiness for graduation of the Forces on the stated date.

The Presidency further directed the mechanisms to start plans towards the commencement of phase two immediately following the graduation of forces under phase one.

The meeting was also attended by the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, as well as line Ministers in the Security Sector.

During the meeting, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon. Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro informed the leadership that the Government will brief RJMEC next week on the agreement on the Roadmap to a peaceful and democratic end of the Transitional Period of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan that has been signed by the Parties.
